Week the Second

*note: due to peer pressure, this blog will henceforth be known as Kruse Kontrol. I personally liked The Kruse Korner, but I oblige my many fans.

Alas, friends. I thought 2020 was going to run away with the "Shittiest Year Award", but 2021 has since proven itself a contender. Tragedy struck last Friday night at my state championship lacrosse game, when I took a hard fall with 7 minutes left in regulation. I tore my ACL, partially tore my MCL, and dislocated my kneecap. And then Jesuit beat us in triple overtime. As such, I have not been in the shop very much this week.

Instead, I've been doing an unprecedented amount of staring at the wall. I actually looked back at my notes from last week twice, which is something I rarely do (why focus on the past? I answer: boredom). Other than that, I can't reasonably claim to have done anything senior projecty this week, so I shall instead regale you with my exciting adventures from my bed.

I watched both the quarter and semifinals of the Women's NCAA lacrosse tournament. Fabulous, intense games, all of them, even if the NCAA hates women and scheduled them on a Friday during school hours. The finals are at 9am tomorrow on ESPN3 and ESPNU if you want to watch a sick matchup between Boston College and Syracuse.

A lot of wonderful people dropped by to say hi, which I greatly appreciated.

I took a jaunt up to campus to visit the basketball team. They're pretty darn good this year, and I heard Thea Traw is popping off, so I would encourage any and all readers to stream their games.

There was an end of year Debate celebration in Schauff. Catie and I (forever the best parli partners) took a turn competing against each other in a SPAR round regarding Taylor's Swift's best era. Fun was had all around, and it was nice to see all of the various strides that the Speech & Debate club has made in the past year. It was only started two years ago, but this year we sent two people to Nationals, won a variety of tournaments, and got to the finals in almost every State competition. @admin give us money we're winners.

I'm a little tired, which you can probably tell from the lackluster writing style. You would think that bed rest would force a girl to catch up on some sleep, but my terrible habits (especially screen-wise) are dying hard right now.

For those of you who are concerned and wish to shower me with gifts, you can contact my agent, Jon Kruse. Ice cream is a particular favorite. I'll be having surgery in late June (my MCL and kneecap have to heal up before the ACL can be repaired). I hope to be back in the shop starting on Monday. I'm sad that I didn't get in very much this week -- the guys have been so kind and accommodating, and I'd love to get hands-on with some stuff before I leave.

Tata for now,

A very disorganized,

Sophie Kruse

  1. Sophie, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury!!! Terrible news. I look forward to reading more about your project once you can get back into the shop.

  2. SO sorry about your knee!! Good luck with the surgery. (I have had both ACL's fixed. The good news is that afterwards your ACL will be stronger. Women's knees are very poorly designed...).
